Hi Margy, Your problem could be a worn front radius rod ball or a loose cap for the same. If the ball is worn so that it is no longer round you may install a modern repair kit which contains a rubber (neoprene) ball and caps. You must install these caps as they are different from the originals with the springs for flexability. Contact me if I can be of further assistance. Jim
