Classically, shudder in brakes is related to contamination of the brake shoes. Typically, Brake fluid or grease gets on the shoe and dries out from the heat of application into a stickey coating which can cause all manner of anomalies from shreiking, to total wheel lock-up. The A of course only has wheel bearing grease to worry about. since there's no inner wheel bearing seal on the front, over-lubricating the bearings can lead to contamination (A Bearings should be packed manually, and NO extra grease should be stuffed into the hub). If the rear hubs are over lubed, the grease can be forced out the seal and onto the shoes.
Check the surface of the brake shoes. If they show any sign of Scum or dried film that's probably the problem. They should be totally dry and dusty if everything's O.K.
