Seeking advice....Im looking to get my 1st model A. Not knowing a great deal about them I have looked at a few. Im looking for a reasonable "project" for fair price-something that is not too far from being a driver, but not "restored" so to speak. The one that most tempts me right now is a 1930 tudor sedan. The engine, brakes-king pins have been recently rebuilt, and the car appears to run perfectly. It has new tyres, and battery. The body is rust free, and free of putty as best I can tell, but it has been painted 3 times-over 30 years ago-so the paint isnt pretty. The top has been covered with aluminium plate. The origional top is still under the aluminium. The seats are covered in vynle, all the upholstry has been removed and replaced with masonite wall paneling(ugly). All the wood inside(the framework) seems very solid. The doors work well, the windows work well. Everything works perfectly as best I can tell, the cars main problems-restoration of the body and interior. Like I said, the body is not bad-not dented or dinged up at all-same with the fenders. I figure about $2000-$3000 to restore the body but I have no idea what a full interior would cost. Also-minor problems include rust and pitting on the few chrome parts(bumpers-instrument cluster). The chrome radiator cover seems in good shape. The asking price for this car...$5500 or best offer. Im considering trying to buy it for $4500. Is it fair? Next question-would I be crazy to drive it 150 miles to get it home-over mountain roads?
