counter-balancing always helps. I've heard some bad reports about inserts, but if done correctly, I should think it would be an improvement. I've never heard anything bad about the later engines - I call them Model B, really don't know if there was such a thing as Model c. I've seen variations of cranks in the Model B's - not all are counter-balanced, I''d definitely prefer the counter-balanced version. I've found that valve clearance is very critical to a decent running engine, and having just completed a valve job, I'm not convinced that the currently available adjustable tappets are a good answer. I do think that seat inserts are essential with unleaded fuel. Good luck.
