Model A hoopy tractor

I just rescued What I believe is a Model A engined hoopy tractor
from the crusher. I am 34 and I know absolutley nothing about model
A engines. Can I figure out what the engine came out of by the serial
number? I Guessed it was a model A by measuring the bore and
stroke.(3.90x4.25) I could find absolutely nothing other than
"made in U.S.A." on the head and a barely readable serial #.
The Engine is hooked to what I believe is a Saginaw 4-speed.
Can someone please help educate me on these model A engines?
