1928 roadster pick up won,t stay running

HELLO! my model A 1928 pick Roadster up will not stay running for long. It only sat idle for 35 years. I cleaned and rebuilt the carb, new wire harness ,new coil, new points and condeser , cleaned the tank and lines. the only time it will run is I have to prime the spark plugs with gas, then it will run briefly. Whats up? could timing be off? The frt. plug next to radiator is the number 1 plug RIGHT? Please some good info. would be great! thanks Richard
